RECRUITMENT

KNOT Yacht Services are compliant with the terms of 1.4 of the MLC 2006 and as such we have enforced several points to ensure a yachts compliancy also.

We require that the Captain of the yacht provides us with the yacht’s MLC 2006 Certificate.

We ask our clients to confirm your contract details with you prior to your commencement, where this is possible.

Your SEA (Seafarers Employment Agreement) should contain information that the owner has the means to protect you (the crew member) from being stranded in a foreign port.  It is advised under the convention that you should have sighted your SEA prior to boarding the yacht.

KNOT Yacht Services also has ensured that our operations comply with the MLC 2006 convention as follows:

  • We keep an up-to-date, confidential database of all crew recruited or placed by ourselves
  • We conduct confidential reference checks on all the crew we put forward to our clients
  • We verify the validation and authenticity of all Qualifications and Licenses
  • We do not charge crew for our recruitment services - they are completely free of charge to crew
  • We do not have a ‘black list’ or anything of that sort to prevent or deter crew from gaining employment
  • We do not recruit ‘under age’ crew

As a crew member you should know that once you are employed and live and work onboard there may be disciplinary procedures consistent with national laws, which should be explained in full detail in your SEA.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you have read and understood any disciplinary procedures, Code of Conduct expected and Standing Orders.

We need you to provide scans of your various documents that we upload to our database as we are obliged to send these to our client:

  • A copy of your Passport ID page
  • Your full STCW Basic Safety Training Certification: including all 5 STCW modules
  • A current Seafarers Medical Fitness Certificate (ie. ENG1) written in English and stipulating that your sight and hearing, are satisfactory, and when applicable, your colour vision also.
